Saiful Huq, President

Saiful Huq received his Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1989 and MBA degree from Colorado Technical University in 2010. With 25 years of Wireless Industry experience, Saiful has worked for LCC International, Pacific Bell, Cingular Wireless and AT&T. Additionally, he is the Founder and Chairman of Huq Foundation dba Education for Humanity, a 501c(3) non-profit charity organization promoting education for underprivileged children in USA and around the world. Outside his profession, he loves spending time with his beautiful family, traveling around the world and hitting balls on golf courses.

Jamshed Alam Hyder, P.E., President-Elect

Jamshed A. Hyder is serving California Department of Transportation as a Transportation Engineer. He is also an adjunct mathematics instructor at Chaffey Community College where he teaches mathematics since 2001. Previously, he was a project engineer at several architectural and engineering firms. He received his bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1997 from Cal Poly University, Pomona. He has served AABEA-SC as an executive member for the 2009-10 term and represented Southern California Chapter to Central Executive Committee for the 2011-12 term. He is married to Dr. Mahbuba Hyder. They have a daughter, Maleeha Jahin Hyder.

Farhana Haque (Shumi), General Secretary

Farhana Haque (Shumi) is a Technical Program Manager at Facebook. She is currently working on Facebook’s internet.org initiative managing the Free Space Optical projects out of the Woodland Hills office. Prior to joining Facebook, Farhana was a Senior Physics Engineer at Raytheon in El Segundo, CA primarily working on the VIIRS (Visible Infrared Radiometric Systems) project. On this project her roles included Systems Verification Lead, Data Review Board Chair for Sensor Integration and Responsible Engineering Lead for all Optical Assemblies. Farhana has her M.S. and B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from UCLA.

Khondokar Karim, Treasurer

Khondokar Karim is a licensed professional engineer, handyman, cook, and La Liga aficionado. He is currently working at California State Transportation Agency for the last ten years as Project Engineer. He is responsible for preparation of project report, construction Plan, Specification and Estimate for various types of roadway projects in the Division of Design. Before joining public sector, he worked as a Drainage Engineer in the fields of hydrology and hydraulics which includes design of flood control channels, Surface water modeling, watershed analysis, floodplain delineation, storm drain & detention basin design and technical writing of master drainage reports in southern California and several other states. He also worked in IT industry for couple of years during dot com era. He obtained his BS degree from BUET and MS degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in Civil Engineering. He is also a qualified storm water developer (QSD) and Industrial storm water practitioner (QISP).

Sohel Uddin Ahmed, MBA, Member

Sohel Uddin Ahmed was born and brought up in Chittagong, Bangladesh. He is working as Professional RAN performance engineer at AT&T mobility since July 2012. After completing his Bachelor’s in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Chittagong (now CUET) in 1994, he started his career in telecommunication industry as System Engineer at Bangladesh Telecom Limited. He Completed his MBA from University of Science & Technology, Chittagong in 2005. He joined in Grameen Phone Limited (largest Bangladeshi mobile Operator) in 1997 and served for 13 years. He came to USA in December 2010. He worked in Celcite Management Solution, Inc. as RF Engineer from 2011 to mid-2012. Sohel loves to spend time with his family and friends. He is married to Sultana Razia and blessed with two boys, Naveed Ahmed Sekender and Sakeef Ahmed Sekender. They live in Lakewood, California.

Mohammed Mahibur Rais, Member

Mohammed Mahibur Rais completed his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1989 from BUET. He has been working as a Service Engineer in the Service Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific for last 15 years. His fields of specializations are Ion Chromatography and High Performance Liquid Chromatography. He is happily married to his wife Dr. Umme Ruman Rais and lives in Castaic with their two sons. He loves traveling, reading books, spending time with friends and family.

Mohammed Arif Iftekhar, Member

Arif Iftekhar is currently Director of Research and Development at Endologix Inc., a medical device manufacturer in Irvine, CA that specializes in cardiovascular implants to repair major blood vessels. He has a MS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Prior to Endologix, Arif was R&D Manager at Medtronic Inc. in SF Bay Area, and R&D Engineer at Boston Scientific in Minneapolis, MN.

Nabil Haque (Amio), Member

Nabil Haque is a Technical Support Engineer at FUTEK, a force measurement manufacturing company. Currently, he is working in the sales department supporting customers, unit returns, and testing. Prior to working at FUTEK, Nabil interned as a student engineer at Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2015.

MD Rohul Amin Bhuiyan (Shimul), Member

MD Rohul Amin Bhuiyan is presently working as a Transportation Engineer (Civil) at Caltrans, District 7. He received his Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering in 2006 and his Masters in 2009 from California State University, Fullerton. He was an Executive Member of ASCE Student Chapter and the President of the Society of Asian American Engineers at CSUF. He received the Asian Outstanding Student Graduate Award and the Outstanding Academic Achievements Award in Engineering and Computer Science while at CSUF, and a Publication Award at the World Congress on Engineering, London for his paper on Transportation Problems. He served as an Executive Member of AABEA-SC for 2011-12 term, and has been serving as an Executive Committee Delegate for the Professional Engineers in California Government since 2007. He is married to Nasima Farzana Bhuiyan, a Civil Engineering Lecturer at California State University, Long Beach. They are blessed with two sons, Nubaid and Nusayr.

Zafar Ahmed, Ph.D, P.E, G.E, Member

Zafar Ahmed graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in Civil Engineering in 1991. He received his masters and Ph. D degrees in Geotechnical Engineering in 1999 from the University of Florida where he also worked as a post-doctoral fellow. He moved to San Francisco Bay area in 2001to work at a start-up company for optical network system design and at a structural engineering consulting firm. In 2003, he moved to Southern California to lead a group of professionals at a major construction inspection and materials testing firm. He also practices in geotechnical engineering consultation for a wide range of public and private construction projects - residential, commercial and industrial.
